Carduelis spinus

An occasional visitor to the bird feeders throughout the year, often seen daily when they are around, usually accompanying greenfinches. Absent for long periods at other times. They are quite agressive to other birds on the feeders. Initisally they were predominantly feeding on niger seed, but more recenly they show a strong preference for sunflower hearts. Juveniles lack black cap and yellow breast.
