Common nettle-tap

Anthophila fabriciana

Notes

Small moth ca. 10 mm in wingspan that rests with wings flat in a deltoid arrangement. Wings a pale and dark brown speckled with white fringe at rear. Antennae and legs finely banded white and brown. Always associated with nettle patches and larvae found in loose thread meshes inside rolled up nettle leaves.

Sightings by month

In nettle patch behind the pond rock garden and in wildflower border. Adults and caterpillers in May.
