Large yellow underwing

Notes

Large night-flying moth with light brown forewings wings with prominent black mark near trailing edge. Kidney mark black but oval mark white. Underwings orange-yellow. Food plant grasses. For caterpiller see here.

Sightings by month

Commonly captured in light trap 8th July: two individuals; 2nd August >16 individuals; 20th August 12 individuals. Single individual in greenhouse 5th Sept. Two worn individuals in light trap 2nd October, 2022. Fresh individual in greenhouse 21st June, and 29th June, 2023. Abundant (40+) in light trap 27th July and 9th and 18th August, 2023. 16 caught in light trap 26th August, 2023; caught in light trap 5th September (19), 14th September (3), 8th October (1), 2023. In moth trap 15th July (7), 20th July (3), 29th July (5), 2024. Worn individuals in moth trap 15th and 19th September, 2024 (5).
