Appearance

Cap low-domed, thick-fleshed and with fine scaly surface off-white in colour; 7 cm in diameter. Gills pink when fresh, turning to dark brown with age; dense; unbranched; free. Stem thick and stubby; 22 mm diameter by 30 mm in length with slight terminal bulb that tapers to a point; with thickened double ring near top that includes a downward drooping flap. Flesh not obviously staining when cut except above gills which turn slightly pink . Spore print dark brown. Spores brown and rather thick-walled, small and rounded-ellipsoidal with asymmetric nipple and no germ-pore; Pore size 5.1-7.5 x 4.0-4.8 um (mean = 5.9 x 4.4 um, n = 20; Q = 1.3). No cystidea. Basidia predominantly 4-spored.

Habitat

Growing up through grass cuttings heap near oak tree.
