Ampulloclitocybe clavipes


Appearance

Cap 5 cm in diameter; low domal in profile with inturned edge; tan in colour, becoming paler to rim and with a mottled (cracked glaze) appearance; smooth, shiny and dry. Flesh thick and white. Gills dense, unbranched, decurrent; pale with a unfreyed gill edge. Stem thick and solid, with a much expanded hoof-like base; paler towards cap; 5 cm long and 13 mm diameter, expanding to 25 mm diameter at the base. Spore print white. Spores not amyloid, elongate and pip-shped with off-centre apiculus at one end; 5.9-7.2 x 2.8-3.4 um, mean = 6.5 x 3 um, N = 20; Qav = 2.1. No cystidia. Spore dimension slightly smaller than expected but otherwise a good match.

Habitat

In grass near oak tree.
