Yellow fieldcap

Appearance

Small, short-lived mushroom reaching ca. 2 cm in diameter when fully open. Cap initially conical and lemon yellow in colour, with a greasy surface. As it opens the yellow fades from the outer part leaving just the centre yellow and eventually becoming all dirty white, dry-surfaced and flat; transitioning in a day. Cap fragile and tears readily. Gills rather spaced, adnexe but hardly contacting the stalk; straw-coloured with browner walls and yellow edge. Stem tall and slender; 80 mm x 2 mm; pale greenish yellow to white; smooth to finely felted.

Spore print an orange brown. Spores brown, ellipsoidal, with obvious terminal germ pore. Size 12.0-14.0 x 7.1-8.0 um (mean = 13.0 x 7.5 um; n = 14).

Habitat

May: In lawn outside french window in short grass and in woodland path near damsen trees. Early September: in short grass outside greenhouse. Under Golden Spires apple tree in early October.
