Galerina vittiformis


Appearance

Small orange striated mushroom ca. 1.0-1.5 cm in diameter. Cap conical, yellow-orange in colour with pale apex ; distinct darker fine radial banding around outer part. Gills adnate, flesh coloured, widely spaced and unbranched; edge white and finely frayed. Stalk slender, about 1-1.5 mm diameter and up to 7 cm tall; solid, pale orange brown like cap at top but becoming darker downwards; surface prunose covered with fine fuzz (cystidea) along most of its length. Spore-print orange-brown. Spores amyloid; lemon-shaped and smooth-walled or with minimal surface granulation; outer layer firmly attached. Spores 10.8-13.0 x 5.5-7.5 um; mean = 11.3 x 6.8 um; N=14; Qav = 1.7. Abundant lageniform to fusiform cystidea both along gill edges and sides. Basidia 4-spored.

Distinguished from other Galerina species by its large lemon-shaped spores, abundant cheilo- and pleuro-cystidia and fine fuzz along its stem length. Identical with material described under this name at https://www.outerhebridesfungi.co.uk/

Habitat

Growing in mossy grass at bottom of the wildflower meadow.
