Appearance

Club-like black fungus usually single but sometimes clustered. Head glossy ink-black and tongue-like, stalk slightly violaceous and covered in fine pale scales; a few fine white hyphae at base. Asci long with spores bundled together. Spores 90-100 um long, slender and almost straight; septate with 7-10 partitions. Paraphyses with curved, often slightly swollen tip. No setae.

Habitat

Growing in waxcap meadow; common.
