Slimy waxcap

Appearance

Cap 2-4 cm in diameter with slimy surface; initially conical, becoming flat to slightly concave with upturned rim as it matures; various shades of brown, darker in the centre and with radial lines apparent only around rim; occasional greyish fawn forms; always slimy wet in appearance. Gills adnate, white when fresh, to pale yellow in colour. Stalk slimy, relatively stout, off-white and very slimy; hollow and sometimes with a distinct vertical crease. Spore print light cream. Spores oval and smooth walled; 6.5-8.2 x 4.0-5.2 um, mean = 7.3 x 4.6, N = 16.

Habitat

Waxcap meadow; moderately common.
