Appearance

Cap to 30 mm diameter, domed in smaller individuals becoming almost flat and with a wavy margin in larger individuals. Surface dry; slightly pinkish beige in colour with an orange-brown centre, hygrophanous. Gills white in three cycles; free or slightly adnexed with very small attachment to stem. Stem very tough , hollow, smooth and satiny; pale flesh colour close to cap but becoming a deep blood red towards the slightly swollen base.

Spore print white. Spores pip-like (amygdaloidal), non amyloid, 5.0-6.8 x 3.2-3.8 um, mean = 5.8 x 3.5 um, n = 20; Q = 1.6. Cheilocystidia sparse, with forked irregular tip.

Spores larger than those of Gymnopus dryophilus and stem a much darker red in lower part.

Habitat

In grass in front of Cypress tree. Also growing in wildflower border.
