Tawny funnel

Lepista flaccida


Appearance

Cap to 50 mm diameter initially with inturned margin but eventually becoming funnel-shaped; pale initially but becoming reddish-brown in colour with a more creamy margin, slightly waxy surface but with fine hairs around the outer margins and whole cap more finely felty in smaller individuals. Gills initially white, turning a cream colour; strongly decurrent; branched. Stem solid; fibrillous, dry; slightly thicker at base; no hyphae. Spore print creamy white. Spores small, weakly dextroid, subspherical to ellipsoidal and obviously warty. 4.0-5.0 x 3.7-4.2 um (mean = 4.2 x 3.8 um, n = 20); Q = 1.3.

Habitat

In leaf mould amongst ivy underneath yew tree at bottom of garden: 20 individuals. Also under holly trees in bottom corner of garden.
