Fungi 

White daperling

Leucoagaricus sublittoralis

Appearance

Cap to ca. 3 cm diameter, flat to slightly concave; small umbo that is brown-red tinged, with fine scales; outer part white with finer scales. Gills free, pure white, fine, unbranched and dense. Stalk white, slender with small but distinct upward-flairing ring; smooth above ring but very finely flecked beneath; hollow. No colour change where damaged. Spore print white. Spores amygdaloid, staining brown in Metzer's; smooth; rather thick-walled; 6.7-8.5 x 3.4-4.0 um, mean 7.4 x 3.8 um, N = 19. Cheilocystidia clavate to cylindrical; pleurocystidia absent.

Identification tentative, as this is a rare species in the UK.

Habitat

Growing beneath dead-wood fence in deep wood-litter at bottom of garden.
