Appearance

Cap to 12 mm diameter; conical to low domed; a dark grey with purplish tinge, and darker centrally; with radial striation weakly evident over outer part of the disc; drying a paler grey. Gills silver grey in colour with lighter rim; adnate with short decurrent tooth; sides finely prunose. Stem to 40 mm in length by 2.8 mm diameter; a glabrous, steel grey colour and finely prunose throughout; hollow. Spore print white. Spores ellipsoidal and with no germ pore; 8.0-9.6 x 4.2-5.0 um (mean = 8.5 x 4.8 um, n = 8). Cheilocystidia abundant, mostly bulbous with terminal finger, some with two or more fingers. Caulocystidia common, cylindrical twisted and branched.

Differs from M. aetites in having shorter, more bulbous cheilocystidia, a darker cap with less prominent radial markings and a more pruinose stalk.

Habitat

In grass under the wytch elm near bottom of garden.
