Appearance

Cap (to 25 mm) domed and violet-purple in hue centrally; outer zone radially striate; hygrophanous, drying to a off-white. Gills whitish with a violaceous tinge; adnexed to emarginate. Stem hollow and smooth, brown with faint circumferential banding; slightly pruinose near top. Spore print white. Spores hyaline in KOH, lightly amyloid in Metzer’s; ovate-shaped and smooth; 6.2-7.8 x 3.0-3.3 um, mean = 7.3 x 3.2 um, N = 15; Qav = 2.3. Gill edge sterile, with abundant clavate to subcylindrical cheilocystidia. No pleurocystidia. Distinguished from other Mycena by its distinctive colour and simple cheilocystidia.

Habitat

Under Julian's Early apple tree. Also under damson tree and in wildflower border.
