Veiled oyster

Pleurotus dryinus


Appearance

Large off-white oyster mushroom with irregularly oval cap (80x60 mm), thick fleshed with a wrinkled, felted surface. Edge of cap inturned and with remnants of veil. Gills decurrent and with some reticulate crossbars towards the stem; gill-edge smooth. Stalk short and robust; oval in cross-section and almost as wide as long. Spore print white. Spores cylindrical, 8.0-11.2 x 3.0-3.6 um, mean = 9.7 x 3.2 um, N = 10.

Habitat

Growing out from stump of cut branch of living cut leaf beech.
