Polyporus squamosus


Appearance

Fan-shaped fruiting body with short highly eccentric stalk growing from old tree stump; 150 mm max. diameter. Upper surface with brown scales formed by cracked skin, revealing straw-coloured flesh. Stalk at one side of the body; black; extending into the wood of the stump. Lower surface white with angular rectangular pores reaching 2.5 x 0.9 mm in size. Spore print white. Spores lenticular elongate; smooth, without germ pore; 10.5 – 15.8 x 3.8-5.1 um, mean 13.0 x 4.2 um, n = 11.

Habitat

Growing from centre of old holly tree stump.
