Appearance

Cap to 25 mm diameter; a dull fawn in colour drying to a straw colour; low domed in profile with outer third fibrous with veil remnants. Gills adnate, with rather a long attachment to stem; pale fawn initially turning dark brown in maturity; rather dense with several cyclical lengths. Stipe white, 6 cm in length but only 3.2 mm in diameter; hollow; brittle; with fine with fibres along much of length; no ring.

Spore print black. Spores oval, smooth-surfaced with a large germ-pore at one end (somewhat truncated appearance to spore); 7.8-9.0 x 4.4-5.0 um (mean 8.4 x 4.8 um; n= 15). Cheilocystidia numerous, clavate to spherical with no inclusions. Pleurocystidia sparse, stubby lageniform with rounded head. Pilleipellis of fine densely packed globular cells.

Habitat

Found in late October/November, under cut-leaf beech tree and under holly trees at bottom of garden in woody debris.
