An informal survey of the plant and animal life living in or visiting the grounds of Pointfield, Kelso since 2015

Upright coral

Ramaria stricta agg.


Appearance

Clumps of small, slender, rather stiff, white- to cream-coloured fingers that branch multiple times and at their tip give rise to 4-6 small white-tipped stubby projections; more basal parts flattened rather than cylindrical; tips staining a reddish-brown in places where bruised and branches becoming a cinnamon brown with age (spore coating). Surface turns apple-green on application of FeSO4. Thin white hyphal chords extend beneath. Spore print cream. Spores ellipsoidal with fine surface granulation; 7.2-8.2 x 3.4-4.2 um (mean 7.8 x 3.9 um, n = 20). Basidia with three long, widely spaced sterigmata.  

Habitat

Growing on wood-chiped soil and leaf debris under the Rambling rector rose. Also in border by back gate in woodchip (see here for images).
