Appearance

Tiny dark brown-coloured mushroom in moss. Cap 8 mm diameter, circular; thin fleshed. Dark violaceous brown at centre, becoming reddish brown then white toewards margin; radial bands evident across outer part of cap. Gills white, strongly decurrent; just primary and secondary cycles present. Stalk long and slender (45 x 1 mm); violaceous at top becoming reddish then pale towards base; uppermost part covered with microscopic white hairs (pileocystidia). Spore print white. Spores small, ellipsoidal, 4.7-5.7 x 2.6-3.0 um (mean 5.0 x 2.7 um; n = 20); no germ pore; smooth and thin walled; inamyloid, usually with 1-2 guttules. Cheilocystidia and pleurocystidia laganiform, with small rounded tips (subcapitate).

Habitat

In mossy patch (Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus) in waxcap meadow and in grass outside greenhouse.
