Tiny (1-2 mm diameter) cylindrical spikes up to 15 mm long; black, knobly and in places hairy stems ending in a flesh-pink coloured tip.
Growing through moss on the ground beneath the beech tree (Fagus sylvaticus) at the foot of the garden; arising from buried seed cupules.
