Syrphid with black wing stigma and brown colouring around, abdomen with large orange triangles on the first tergum and very thin orange lines to the edge of posterior terga. Abdomen strongly tapered. Tibia and tarsii of anterior and mid legs pale distally. Seen from late March onwards.
