Hymenoptera
Small bee (ca. 1 cm) with broad dark head, yellow fringed thorax and black abdomen with indistinct yellow bands laterally marking segment boundaries. Female (illustrated) distinctive with entirely orange-red scopae (pollen collecting hairs), which extend past the sides of the abdomen to make a fringe. Legs not strongly hairy and front tarsi not enlarged. Female seen here in late July.
