Small bee (ca. 1 cm) with broad dark head, orange-brown hairy thorax and black abdomen with indistinct yellow bands marking segment boundaries; abdomen hairs prominent especially on lower surface. Legs not strongly hairy. Possibly M. versicolor, but microscope observations needed to make firm ID. Male seen here visiting a potentilla flower in late June.
