Molluscs: slugs
Large yellow mottled slugs. The distinction between L. maculatus, the Irish yellow slug and L. flavus the Yellow slug is difficult and probably needs microscopic examination. However, the Irish yellow slug is generally a darker and more green in body colour and the yellow spots more numerous and spread further round the body towards the sole. There is no continuous light-coloured band at the base immediately above the sole, as is found in the Yellow slug. The two individuals pictured are thought to be examples of L. maculatus (left) and L. flavus (right)
Found under logs around the garden. The yellow slug is more common and is often found inside the lid of the water butt.
