Marchantia polymorpha

 

Diagnostic features

Flat spreading liverwort with glossy green thalli dotted with tiny air pores. Thalli bear circular receptacles that give rise to stalked gemmae each ending in a stellate cap. Gemmae present in April. In the male form the cap is discoidal; the female form is stellate.

Habitat

On steps leading to front door.
