Common candy-striped spider

Enoplognatha ovata, sensu lato

 

Notes

Small spider with yellow body and eight eyes in two rows. Carapace small, ovate, with median dark band. Abdomen bulbous, yellow with median thin black line and one or two rows of black lateral spots (form lineata). Legs pale and covered in fine hairs; may have dark annulation at joints; anterior legs longest. Cannot be distinguished from latimana without microscopic examination.

Habitat

Found on flower head of daffodil in April and in the greenhouse in June/early July.
