Purple betony

Betonica officinalis


Appearance

Perennial wildflower with narrow ovate leaves on upright stem. Stem square in cross-section. Leaves coming off stem in opposite pairs; elongate with crenellate margin; hairy. Flowers dense, on a terminal spike; purple and with a long tubular base to the petals.

Habitat

In wildflower border and occasionally in short grass meadow.
