Appearance

Cap ca. 3 cm in diameter; conical with central boss and slightly downturned rim; hygroscopic, drying pale. Boss a dark reddish brown colour, becoming paler tan and radially fibrous before changing abruptly to an outer zone of radial striae. Gills adnex to almost free, pink in colour, rather coarse. Stalk longitudinally silvery-fibrilose; slender (3 mm) and rather stiff; no ring. Spore print rosy. Spores amyloid; rather squarish with strong pointed apiculus; 6.8-8.6x 6.5-8.0 um (mean = 8.1 x 7.4 um, N = 14). Qav = 0.91. No cheilocystidia or pleurocystidia. Differs from E. sericeum in spore shape, and in having a cap more obviously concentrically zoned.
