Medium-sized spider variably patterned but with characteristic pale carapace with central, dark tuning-fork mark. Anterior legs longest. Late occurrence in year is strongly suggestive of mengei but distinction from the very similar M. segmentata requires microscope observation.
Amongst plants in vegetable garden in spring (May).
